'Arise, Awake!’ is Shivaratri’s Message....

Image
Shivaratri is the day of Lord Shiva. Shiva is the lord of meditation and therefore the lord of awakening. Shiva Tatva means to be awakened. Shivaratri is thus an occasion to awaken one’s self from all sorts of slumber. Shivaratri is not a night to be slept over. One should try and be up through the night. It signifies being aware of everything you have and being grateful about it. Be grateful for the happiness which leads to growth, and also for sadness which gives a depth to life. This is the right way of observing Shivaratri. For the pious, the following method of Shiva worship is advisable – sit down in lotus posture, do some Pranayam to stabilize your breath, then indulge in Dhyana, followed by chanting of “Om Namah Shivay”. It is the greatest mantra and the devout should drown himself in its Kirtan. Shivaratri worship leads to fulfillment of a devotee’s wishes. There are certain days and time frames in a year that enhance one’s mental and spiritual faculties. In such times, whatev...

Cultural Education….

Image
Jai Gurudev.. During my vacation a month before, we had Mundan Ceremony of my son Rishabh. Hardly 2 years old and a treat to watch.. I was looking at the pictures I just received from my sister. I just can’t get my eyes off from this tiny bundle of joy. The most amazing pictures showing him touch feet of elders after the ceremony. I was wondering and trying to remember, when did I try to teach him this? I really can’t remember putting extra efforts or forcing my kids to learn our culture. Touching the feet of your parents is simply a mark of love and respect for them, and a request for their blessings. I am happy that my kids started learning our culture at this early age. As a father, I want them to learn our culture, small rituals, oral traditions that includes shlokas, bhajans & mantras.. Want them to learn these shlokas with its relevance and the Gods and Goddesses it refers to.. Our culture is so rich & varied that it becomes duty of every parent to impart values & tr...

Eating with Awareness

Jai Gurudev... This week I have been busy taking Sri Sri Yoga for the officers of UTCS (Union Territory Civil Services. It was a nice experience. Each Course gives immense joy and increase Gratitude to our Beloved Master... While taking the Yoga Session, I gave some info on Eating with Awareness and thought to share it with you.. ‘Every time we sit down to a meal we have the opportunity to enhance or undermine our health’. What is our life worth if we are without good health? Our health is so essential to our sense of well-being and happiness, and yet still there are so many of us who know so little about our bodies and who continue to put food into our systems without consciously attending to what is and isn’t of benefit to out system. And yet, as with anything, it often takes losing your health to fully appreciate it. With so many contradictory theories about diet and health and so many different paths and approaches to physical well-being, many of us throw up our arms and say, ‘Why ...

True Celebration...

Let time celebrate your presence. People usually make a wish for the New Year, but this year, make no wish. Let the New Year Celebrate you. If the New Year wants to bring you nicer things, just let it. Usually you are lost in celebration. When you let time celebrate you, you are a witness amidst celebration. The New Year is fortunate because you are living at this time. When you are living for the sake of the world, the world is fortunate. You are not living for yourself, but for the world. Whatever the world needs or wants, you are here for that. Sri Sri
